We are excited to welcome a new feature, Art by Moga, to our GoComics library this week!

Seattle-based creator Meg Adams started Art by Moga on Instagram as a creative outlet in high school. In the feature as you know it today, Adams (whose pen name is Moga) illustrates everyday chronicles with her husband, Carson, and their spunky pups, Boedy and Luna. Join the family as they debate Coke vs. Pepsi, enjoy the small pleasures of fall (Adams is a huge Halloween lover), and navigate work-at-home life.

We caught up with Adams—read on to get to know her a little more!

Tell us a bit about yourself! When did you discover you had a love of drawing and cartooning?

Hello! My name is Meg Adams and I’m the comic artist behind Artbymoga! I live in beautiful Bend, Oregon with my husband, Carson, and our two pups: Boedy and Luna. My comics often feature snippets of our daily shenanigans.

I’ve been drawing since I could hold a crayon, but my passion was really sparked in first grade when I won a blue ribbon at the County Fair for my art submission! Since then, I have practiced art almost every day.

In my free time, I like taking the dogs on long walks, yoga, meditation, bubble baths, cooking, video games, movies, and making more art!

When did you start drawing and writing Art by Moga, and why did you decide to share it with the world on Instagram?

I started writing and posting comics on Instagram as Moga in early high school. It started as silly doodles for friends and family, until a few comics I made went "viral" and I soon found myself with a small audience. In 2017, my reader base grew large enough to support being a full-time comic artist, and I am so thankful for my wonderful (and good-looking) fans.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Great question! I’m a morning person and am usually sitting in my office with a nice cup of something warm by 8 or 9 a.m.

My mornings involve a lot of business management—answering emails, attending zoom meetings, answering emails, checking social media, answering emails, talking to my mom, answering emails, etc. When all that is squared away, I can focus my attention on my favorite part of the day: drawing!

Paid partnerships, collaborations, and commissions tend to be the first thing I work on. Once those are finished the hairs on my neck start to rise and I can feel a crackling in the air. Inspiration springs forth from my fingers. It’s comic time, baby.

I work on Artbymoga comics until I’m ready to call it a day. Sometimes that’s 2 p.m., and sometimes that’s midnight. Kind of depends on what "art zone" I’m in. Usually, I pack up shop around 4 to 6 p.m.

Where does the pen name Moga come from?

From The Jungle Book! When I was a few weeks old, my dad watched Disney’s 1967 The Jungle Book with me. He started calling me “Mowgli,” and that eventually evolved to “Moga.” It’s been my nickname all my life and when I wanted to start posting comics, it was the perfect pen name.

Who are the readers that you connect with most?

Probably the shirtless ones.

On a scale of 1-10, how much do you love Halloween?

Gonna have to go with a solid 11/10. It is my favorite time of year and I’m OBSESSED.

Does Carson have to approve comics about him? How about the puppers?

Carson’s opinion always matters to me, even though sometimes his meticulous eye picks out things like “you used the wrong form of ‘your’.” That said, the puppies live a very difficult life, full of walkies, zoomies, naps and treats. As a result, they are far too busy to look over every comic.

Tell us about your new book!

It’s called “Why are you like this?” and is a collection of my work featuring redrawn fan-favorites alongside over 100 never-before-seen comics. I am happy to say that while it is still in the works with the publisher, we hope to have it released early next year! Stay tuned for more details on that soon!
