   I got laid off from a little Mom & Pop company that didn’t want to pay unemployment. While I was at the unemployment office, the clerk called the company to ask about irregularities in their paperwork… before long she was involved in an argument with the owner, and told him his excuses were not legal – she approved full unemployment for me.

   I called four other people who had been laid off at the same time I was. None of them had filed for unemployment because the owner had convinced them that they could not qualify – got them to file, and they all received full unemployment.

   Had a jerk boss who only had his position because he bought it. (Company was cash-strapped, and it sold middle management positions to certain cretins that had cash and could be controlled… called it “having skin in the game”.) Boss would call meetings just to belittle us…

   HR put out a survey to determine why morale was low. Boss was incensed that the results rated him very low… during his rant at us over it he suddenly “had an epiphany” – he decided that his low scores meant he was doing an excellent job. After all, “good leaders are tough” he sneered at us.

   Company continued to circle the drain, with layoffs and defections. Boss lost every one of his subordinates, so he got demoted. I still run into him from time to time (small area and industry) and he still denies that he wasn’t the best boss… he has not held a management position since.

   Dad had a new house built when I was a toddler, in WV, without A/C (it was very uncommon in WV back then). About ten years later another new house was built in our neighborhood, and it had central A/C! It became the social center of the neighborhood, but to me it was always too cold in there.

   My MAGA nephew was incensed that he could not vote for his daughter in 2020. Said because she was within three months of being legal voting age, and because she supported the GOP, that should qualify him as her legal guardian to submit her vote. Of course, she only “supports” the GOP because she lives in his house and he rants GOP talking points at her all day.

   Now his other daughter is within about four months of being legal voting age for 2024. But she doesn’t care about politics. He wants to vote for her anyway (straight GOP ticket) to “do the right thing” as he says. He’s mad at me for pointing out that casting an illegal vote is not “doing the right thing”…

   Ironically, I did not know that the messy yard belonged to the neighbor who hassled me. I did not know that he had called the City at the time, and I was trying to be helpful. Found out about karma biting that neighbor from another neighbor, about two weeks later.
